Do you know the number one reason people haven't joined Pheasants Forever? It's because they haven't been asked yet.

Pheasants Forever chapters hold thousands of events throughout the year, but spring – now through April – is when the majority of Pheasants Forever chapters hold their annual membership fundraisers, most commonly referred to as Pheasants Forever banquets.

Pheasants Forever memberships can be purchased right here at www.PheasantsForever.org and are most certainly appreciated, but Pheasants Forever banquets remain the conservation organization's engine, offering far more than anything we could ever do online.

For the cost of a Pheasants Forever membership ($35) and a meal (typically around $20), per person, local Pheasants Forever banquets are held in American Legion and VFW halls, bars & grills and community centers across "Pheasant Country."

The cost of the Pheasants Forever membership helps run the organization from a national standpoint, allowing us to have a staff of professional wildlife biologists, produce the Pheasants Forever magazine, the Pheasants Forever Journal of Upland Conservation, and other costs of running a non-profit conservation organization. Most importantly, your membership puts wildlife habitat on the ground and introduces the next generation of youngsters to the outdoors.

Local chapters then keep control over absolutely every red cent they raise at their events. Whether a chapter nets $5,000 or $50,000, the money goes into the chapter's bank account. The chapter decides how, when and where the money will be spent. It could be to help acquire a piece of land that has become available or to put on a youth hunt, but no matter what, chapters raise funds and spend them as they see fit. This is what separates Pheasants Forever from all other conservation organizations.

While all this is great, probably the most important aspect of a Pheasants Forever banquet is the good time to be had. In addition to a tasty meal, chapters raffle and auction off an assortment of firearms, outdoor gear and wildlife arts and crafts. Attending a banquet provides that human element – a congregation of fellow upland hunters, big game hunters, waterfowlers, conservationists, farmers, ranchers, community business sponsors and youngsters – that is simply unattainable anywhere else.

You may not leave with a new gun, but we can almost guarantee you'll leave having acquired a new hunting buddy and better appreciation for the wildlife habitat work Pheasants Forever does.

If you haven't joined Pheasants Forever, we'd love to have you, and hope to see you at a Pheasants Forever banquet this spring!
